LECTURES&PROCESS


Week 1


In the first week of the course, the teacher explained to us the concept, requirements and some related knowledge of cross-cultural design, which gave us a preliminary understanding of the relevant content of cross-cultural design. Its theme is daily design, so we must find some design elements that can be integrated into daily life, and the functionality needs to be strong. Taking the study of Japanese culture as an example, the teacher showed us how to explore and design experiments. All the homework of this course will be carried out in groups, so the first task we faced was to set up a group. This process was not very smooth, but fortunately, I finally found a group member successfully.


Week 2


After setting up the group, we will carry out the second task, which is to determine our research topic. After careful discussion by the team members, we focused on the traditional culture of China, and continued in-depth discussion, and finally decided to take Cantonese morning tea culture as the theme. Considering the combination with daily design, we decided to make take-away packaging for Cantonese dim sum.



Week 3


Next, we have made in-depth research and discussion on the selected theme.

Eating morning tea is one of the social eating customs in China, which is more common in southern China, especially in Guangdong and Yangtai, Jiangsu. The status of refreshments in Guangdong morning tea is also very important. There are two kinds of refreshments: dry refreshments include jiaozi, dried fruits, steamed stuffed buns and crisp cakes, while wet refreshments include porridge, meat, turtle paste and bean curd.

The design of take-away packaging is very important. In a way, it reflects the image of the restaurant. The unique design can make the audience have a deep impression on it and increase its credibility and reputation. Take-away packaging can affect customers' first perception of the restaurant. Exquisite design and beautiful packaging can generate great attraction and make people feel happy, thus increasing their goodwill towards the restaurant and strengthening consumers' memory of the brand. This shows the importance of packaging design, and it can also be used as a marketing tool to become an important factor to attract new customers.

We will combine the ideas to write slides and proposals, and improve them according to the feedback from the lecturers. According to the discussion of the group members, we cooperated to design a take-away package about morning tea, which was inspired by the ancient food box in China, and made some innovations in the structure, such as changing the material and form of the handle, adding a grid inside and so on. The designer of our group has designed three different styles of appearance. My task is to make a prototype according to her drawing, so as to realize visual design and apply it to the actual packaging made later.

Experience

In group cooperation, we should pay attention to a clear division of labor and communicate in time in order to improve efficiency.

Daily design is closely related to our life, and it will be interesting to combine it with traditional culture.

Team cooperation requires the efforts of each team member, so as to make satisfactory works.

In this task, I will choose one of the three sketches with different compositions as my final sketch.
