LECTURES&PROCESS

week 4

After group discussion, we finally chose BIBI-The Weekend as the theme song of our words, and at the same time, we arranged the parts that different team members should be responsible for after the meeting. In class, Mr. Martin asked the group to discuss to determine the overall effect of the video and so on. After the discussion in our group, the team leader determined the general effect of video production and posted it in the form of words in our group chat. The follow-up team leader is very responsible for making mood board in PPT form, so that the team members can better complete the production. According to Mr. Martin's explanation and the division of labor in the group, I began to make the part I was responsible for.

In this week's class, Mr. Martin explained to us how to make an infographic animation. There are different types of infographics, such as pie charts, bar charts and so on. The teacher made tutorials for different types of infographic animations in PPT. The students were randomly arranged by Mr. Martin to make charts, and I was assigned to make small animations of linear charts.

week 5

This week, Mr. Martin reminded the students to complete the information chart about food production as soon as possible. In this task, we need to choose one of the videos from the YouTube channel, Granny Spaghetti, and make a poster with sufficient information according to the content.

At the same time, he explained to us the process of making small animation with AE. As before, the teacher provided different kinds of materials and links, and arranged them randomly. I was arranged to use the D version of the ai vector file.

INTRODUCTION

Instructable Infographics poster

Core elements:

Converting a cooking video (based on Pasta Grannies, a youtube channel) into a complete and understandable step information diagram requires clear steps, combination of pictures and texts, simplicity and readability; The structure is clear and orderly, with distinct levels and unified style.

In this project, we need to choose a video from the channel Granny Spaghetti as the theme of information poster production. First of all, I browsed this channel, searched and integrated some information, so that I could finish my task more efficiently. After my screening, I finally set my sights on three videos. They are 99yr Old Rina Makes Delicious Fettuccine, 91yr Old Adriana Makes Her Signature Tagliatelle and Discover the Italian Comfort Combo: Pasta & Beans! So I can determine the final theme from these three videos.

YouTube link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AVXAedWqqc8

I analyzed the contents shown in the video, starting from the aspects of material preparation, production steps and overall atmosphere, and finally chose the video of 99yr old Rina makes delicious as the theme of my poster.

I watched the video repeatedly and summed up the process of making fettuccine:

The first step is to mix the dough, knead the dough by hand after molding, and cut the dough into small strips to make pasta.

Step 2: Boil the water to make the pasta.

Step 3, cut carrots, onions and green onions into small pieces for later use, then stir them with the mixture of pork and beef, add olive oil and tomato sauce and stir-fry them to make meat sauce.

Step 4, take out the spaghetti, drain the water for later use, and mix it with the meat sauce.

The number of such steps is small and the content is concise and clear, which is more convenient when making posters.

Mr. Martin suggested that we draw a draft of the poster first, which would help us to better arrange its contents. So I drew three drafts with different typesetting, and then looked for the right material.

The style of the material I refer to is hand-painted and simple. So I found some picture materials from the internet and arranged them according to my draft.

According to the draft I drew before, I made a poster first. According to my written description, I found some materials and assembled them, and found a suitable background. In terms of text, I use handwriting to make the text more suitable for the theme and elements of the poster, so that the overall effect is better and more intimate. In the process of typesetting, I didn't exactly follow the previous draft because it was unreasonable.

Because I drew a different draft, I rearranged it. But the main elements are reused. The layout of this poster has changed, but the idea is similar to the last one. As before, I arranged the background of the whole poster first.

Then refer to the typesetting of the last poster, and the final effect is similar.

According to the third draft I conceived before, I made another poster, which is different from the last poster layout. The overall layout is more creative and the ingredients are displayed more clearly. As before, I looked for one side of the material and put it at the bottom of the picture after processing, and arranged splashing sauce on the top to show some dynamics.

Then, I intend to insert ingredients into it to show what materials spaghetti is made of.

I adjusted the size and proportion of some materials to make them have a certain distance from the edge of the poster. In this vacancy, I will show the steps of making spaghetti. According to the steps written before, I have divided them into four steps. Like the materials used in the first two posters, I arranged the step diagram and text in the reserved space according to aesthetics, such as debugging the size, adjusting the spacing between lines of text and so on.

I finally finished this poster.

Although I only drew three drafts, I came up with new ideas, so I made other typesetting information posters. This time, I was inspired by the menu. I want to make an information poster like the menu. So I found the material about the menu from the website.

And I made different typesetting.

Then add a step diagram and text description as before for the process. But after the production was completed, I found that their typesetting didn't change much, and it was still similar to the layout of the two posters I made at the beginning, but the decoration changed and didn't show enough creativity.

Moreover, the style of the materials I found is not very uniform, which makes people feel very uncomfortable from the visual point of view, so I plan to deal with these materials with PS or ai.

But after the production was completed, I found that it was still similar to the layout of the two posters I made at the beginning, but the decoration changed and did not show enough creativity. Moreover, the style of the materials I found is not very uniform, which makes people feel very uncomfortable from the visual point of view, so I plan to deal with these materials with PS or ai.

After my production, I found that their styles are still not uniform enough, so I plan to find more uniform materials. At the same time, I need to finish the content in the final project, so I plan to change the material. After a lot of searching, I determined the style, found a reference.

I finally chose to use simple materials, and planned to use PS and ai to process them. At the same time, I also updated the steps summarized before.

1. Mix the eggs and flour together, knead the dough by hand until it forms a smooth mass.

2. Knead the dough, stretch it and roll it into a thin sheet.

3. Cut the sheet into thin strips to make spaghetti.

4. Boil water, add the spaghetti and cook until done. Drain and set aside.

5. Cut the carrots, onions and scallions into small pieces and set aside. Mix them with the pork and beef mixture, add olive oil and tomato sauce and stir-fry until cooked to make the meat sauce.

6. Pour the meat sauce into the pasta.

7. Sprinkle with grated cheese, and the spaghetti is ready.

I am better at PS, so according to the steps and material map I wrote before, I used drawing strokes to draw the material. First, the food materials. According to the video content, I listed all the materials to be used and began to draw one by one. First, I draw a simple line draft, and then use the pen in PS tool to draw a more standard graph.

For example, when painting a bowl, I used the pen tool, which only made the object itself more standard and reasonable.

When drawing eggs, I first drew one and then copied it with the copy tool before changing the color.

The picture I refer to is the common glass jar and olive oil bottle used to hold ketchup. After drawing the glass jar, I added a tomato icon on it. For the color of the olive oil bottle, I directly chose the green color, which is also in line with the real situation.

After my hard work, I finished painting all the ingredients.

The next step is to draw some flow charts. In the whole process, a variety of materials are shared, just like drawing food materials, which are drafted first and then used pen tools, brushes and paint buckets. The first step, making spaghetti, starts with making dough. The materials used are flour and eggs. I imagine that the process is to pour eggs and flour into a bowl and mix them with a blender to form dough, so in this flow chart, four different materials are needed, one is a bowl, the other is flour, the other is an egg and the other is a blender.

In addition, I have to draw two processes: putting the dough on the chopping board and cutting the noodles.

Next is the second step, I will draw the process of cooking spaghetti. The most important part is the pot, water, and the pasta made in front.

After drawing, I simply drew a flame instrument below to show the state of cooking noodles.

The next step is to make sauce. This process is more troublesome and requires more materials. The pot drawn in front can be reused. Next, I will draw a mixture of tomato sauce, olive oil and minced meat and vegetables.

The next step is to draw the process of pouring tomato sauce, olive oil and mixture into the pot.

The last step is to show the process of pouring the cooked sauce into the pasta. First of all, the color of the sauce becomes darker after boiling, so I use deep red as the basic color and depict some details to show the texture of the meat sauce. Although I looked for some references, it was a little troublesome to draw the noodles in the bowl, so it took me a long time to draw the pasta part.

So far, all the physical materials and flow chart materials have been drawn. I just need to replace them with the original files.

After the replacement, I had a new idea. So I'm going to make a few more posters with different typesetting.

Then I started the typesetting of posters. In order to fit the material I finished, I looked for reference again and chose a simple style in typesetting.

This time, I choose to use the square shape drawing tool to arrange and classify the content in the picture, and summarize the whole picture into several regular modules.

Add a title and description first. I arranged these parts at the top of the screen and used some suitable fonts. The fonts I use are Impact regular and Arial Rounded MT bold regular.

While the lower part leaves a large space for the arrangement of the ingredients part and the process part. I divide the second half into three modules, from left to right, which are process column, decoration column and material column. Some of the elements used in the decorative column draw lessons from the elements in a poster made earlier. At the same time, I also redraw some process materials to make the picture more rich and unified. (Of course, this is also a preparation for the final project).

After arranging all the image contents, I began to typeset the text description part. In order to match the title part, I chose the Arial Rounded MT bold regular to make the whole content more harmonious.

After making this poster, I intend to make a little change, that is, change the middle decorative column into a simplified process column and make another version.

Finally, I want to combine with the elements in a poster I made before, so I modified it, changed the structure of the picture, changed the lower part into three parts: process bar, decoration bar and process bar, and adjusted the size and spacing of the material and text to make another version.

After my thinking, I decided to make some different versions of posters. The material used this time is relatively simple, or the process is only divided into four steps as before. I put the title in the upper right corner and attached an introduction. On the left is the final pasta material. In the lower part of the poster, I used the rectangular shape tool to draw an area for placing the process and ingredients. The simplified process is partly on the top, partly on the bottom, and finally resized.

Later, I moved this part up, added a title of other styles at the bottom, and made two other versions.

After I asked Mr Martin, he gave me feedback. He thinks this version is the best, and I can use this one as the final version.

REFLECTION

Experience

In the design process, I need to think about how to express each step through images, icons and words, and let the audience easily understand the whole production process. At the same time, I also need to pay attention to the overall layout and visual effects, so that the poster can keep a good sense of design while keeping the information clear.

Observation

In the process of designing posters, I noticed that the sequence of steps and visual guidance are very important. If they are not clear enough, it may be difficult for the audience to understand the whole content. In addition, the unified illustration style and color can make the poster look more harmonious and help the audience understand the information more easily.

Findings

Through this project, I learned how to transform complex processes into simple and easy-to-understand visual information. Instructional Poster not only needs to be visually attractive, but also needs to be clear and easy to read, so as to ensure that readers can capture the information quickly. This project made me better understand the application of information design in daily life, and also improved my ability in typesetting, information arrangement and visual expression.
