REFLECTION


What have I learnt in this module?

In this module, I came into contact with the concept of design principles and learned different design principles, such as contrast, emphasis, balance, symmetry, repetition and so on. While appreciating the works of art, I began to consciously analyze the various design principles displayed in the picture, explore the techniques in the picture and think about what the author really wants to express and express through the works of art itself. This kind of thinking is very meaningful. We can exercise our artistic appreciation ability and deepen our understanding of different design principles through these, so that we can make better use of them when making our own works of art.


What did I enjoy the most?

My favorite part of this module is the process of learning design principles. This made me understand that art also has principles. I know these concepts seem boring, but it is very interesting to know their definitions and explore their differences. I like concepts very much. Concepts are the best way for us to define a certain definition. Although I need to keep thinking and understanding when looking for information, which may be a little tiring, the learning process is very meaningful, because it can help me better understand the techniques used by the authors in their creation and the ideas they want to express, and also allow me to make conscious analysis when appreciating works of art instead of just looking good. At the same time, learning design principles is also a good way to improve my aesthetic ability. I think, if I have the opportunity to make art, I can consciously apply some different design principles, which can show better works.


What did I not enjoy the most?

In the process of learning this module, there is actually nothing I don't like. It's just that for myself, although I like to get in touch with new things, learn and explore different concepts very much, I am not a person who can accept new knowledge quickly, so it takes time to understand and digest. This semester is not very long. It is a challenge for me to learn and understand some new concepts and use them reasonably during this time. I think I should continue to improve my adaptability and acceptance, so that I can learn more different knowledge and complete it more efficiently.


What have I learnt about myself through this module?

Actually, I know myself better. I'm not a very capable person, and I'm afraid of difficulties, so I'm a little afraid to accept new things, and I'm not confident and often anxious. But after studying this semester, I find that my ability seems to have improved. Although these improvements are not very obvious, I have slightly enhanced my confidence. I think I can make myself stronger if I continue to study. I am very grateful to my tutor, who patiently gave me feedback, made timely suggestions and encouraged me, and pointed out the direction of improvement for me.


What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

While appreciating the works, I began to consciously think about the different design principles, tasting the author's techniques and thinking about the author's intention. When drawing works of art, some design principles will be consciously used to make the design principles stronger. I chose an oil painting when I chose my work, but I am not good at using colors, so it is a challenge for me. I often feel nervous and uneasy when drawing my work, but on the whole, I have successfully completed this task, improved my ability to use colors to a certain extent, and slightly improved my self-confidence and gradually stabilized my mentality.


However, I am still not confident and always doubt my ability, but it is very important to maintain a good state, which will help me in my later design career. At the same time, my design habits are not very good, and my creative efficiency is not high. These are the areas that I need to continue to improve.


What are my aspirations? 

I hope I can continue to improve my understanding of different design principles, appreciate and learn more different works of art, so as to improve my analytical ability, appreciation ability and aesthetic ability, learn more knowledge efficiently, improve painting skills and creative efficiency, and realize my dream one day.

In this task, I will choose one of the three sketches with different compositions as my final sketch. Because the original picture doesn't have a clear focus, all the three compositions I drew give the picture a relatively obvious focus, so it seems that there may be some big changes.
