LECTURES&PROCESS

Week 4

Our main task in week 4 and week 5 is to collect data and make a report so that we can carry out the next final task. Because the theme we choose is to make take-away packaging for morning tea, we need to conduct on-the-spot investigation and research on morning tea culture and take-away packaging.

After the team leader's inspection, the team leader and I took time to go to a dim sum restaurant in the Sunway Pyramid in the fourth week. This dim sum restaurant called Dolly Dim Sum, it is a chain with gorgeous decoration and distinctive features. There is a menu display at the door of the shop. The design of the cover and the inner page is beautiful, which is in line with the theme of the restaurant and also provides some reference for our artists. We ordered some classic snacks, such as shrimp dumplings, crab roe buns, barbecued pork buns and so on, and learned that different snacks have different shapes and different tastes. Unfortunately, we didn't get permission to interview, so we can only experience and perceive the morning tea culture and study the take-away packaging from the aspect of appearance. I am in charge of shooting and collected many photos, which will be part of our research.

Week 5

The importance of interview is very high, which is the best way for us to combine the research topic with the reality, just like the field trip, so we still hope to add this link in the process of research. I continued to investigate the surrounding dim sum restaurant, and after confirming the location, I made a field exploration with another team member. Unfortunately, the process was still not smooth, because not all stores were interviewed. Finally, we found a dim sum restaurant in puchong called "dian du de".

location:19 Jalan Kenari 3 Bandar Puchong Jaya 47100 Puchong

The owner of this restaurant called Jacy Chin (who is also the chef who makes snacks), She warmly received us, recommended some signature snacks for us and accepted our request for an interview. In the first interview, we designed questions around the theme of morning tea culture and gave several questions:

1. Can you introduce your restaurant? Please tell me something about the history of this restaurant if you can.

2. Can you introduce and show us what is the most popular food in this restaurant?

3. What kind of customers come to this restaurant for dim sum?

4. What are the business hours of the dim sum restaurant? When do customers usually like to come here?

5. Regarding dim sum, do you think it is a very important culture in your nation?

The boss has a profound understanding of morning tea, and seriously answered our questions, such as the daily explanation of restaurants and the importance of morning tea culture in daily life. Jacy Chin said that people who eat morning tea have a wide range, from young people to middle-aged people, which proves the daily nature of morning tea culture and can also see that morning tea culture has long been rooted in people's lives. She believes that eating morning tea has become a custom and an important part of China's traditional food culture. In this interview, we have gained a lot, and the answers of professionals are of great help to the completion of our follow-up tasks.

In this session, I am responsible for taking photos and recording videos. These are the collected photos, which we think are very helpful for our research, and the answers from professionals have also answered many doubts for us.

After the teacher's suggestion and our own discussion, we found that there were some loopholes in the design. Because our theme was to make take-away packaging, the design should combine the morning tea culture with the take-away packaging, not just explore the morning tea culture. So we redesigned the question:

1. What do you think is the importance of takeaway for dim sum?

2. Order takeout audience

3. What conditions do you think the dim sum take-away packaging needs and which material is suitable?

4. If you can design a take-away package for your restaurant, what do you think is the most important?

5. Do you want to add patterns to promote Yum cha culture on the package?

6. Do you think the improvement of take-away packaging can increase influence?

We prepared the second interview, and the boss still answered our questions very seriously. She thought the role of take-away packaging was very important. At this stage, many people chose take-away in order to save time, so the take-away packaging needs to give consideration to practicality and aesthetics, etc. For example, in the choice of materials, you can choose environmentally friendly materials to protect the environment; The design of the structure should be functional enough, after all, it needs to contain food and keep it fresh; Art design needs to focus on morning tea culture and can add some elements related to Guangdong culture, so as to promote morning tea culture and Guangdong culture. In this process, I am still responsible for taking photos and recording videos, and screening them.

This experience is very rich. We not only achieved our goal, but also got a deeper understanding of the morning tea culture and take-away packaging, and also got to know the hospitable and earnest boss, which made me feel the importance of the interview. This interview is really meaningful, because it allows us to learn some practical and in-depth views around the theme of morning tea culture and take-away packaging, which is very helpful for the whole study, and also exercises our investigation ability and communication ability, so that we can make more meaningful designs in the future.

REFLECTION

Experience

More complicated work needs to be prepared in advance in order to improve efficiency, and you should try bravely, so that you can exercise your ability and enrich your experience. At the same time, we should ensure that the research process is closely linked with the research theme, from the outside to the inside, and conforms to the concept of daily design.

Observation

Morning tea culture is one of the important traditional cultures, and enjoying snacks has become an important part of people's lives.

Findings

Interview and field trip are very meaningful links, and they are important channels to combine with reality, which is of great help to our subject research.
